My name is Petra Brown, I'm a children's book illustrator. I live in Snowdonia with my lovely partner Iain Robinson - check him out on Treasure Maps.
Most of my photographs are taken around North and Mid Wales... the majority in Snowdonia, as that's where I live. I take pictures for fun. I'm not passionate about photography, but I am passionate about where I live and I want to try to capture in my photographs the feelings that I get when exploring this wonderful place- the ancient Celtic magic and exquisite neglect. I focus on the hills and valleys, the woodlands and the abandoned places. I dislike people pics, and urban shots, being a bit of a misanthropist and nature girl. Although I'm vegan, I can't resist photographing the gentle sheep and beautiful cows that share the countryside along with the wild goats and ponies. I own a lowly Nikon D3100 which suits me, it's light and very easy to use on manual. I edit mainly in Lightroom with the odd bit of Photoshop cloning thrown in.
I know most photographers favour the landscape format for landscape subjects, but I tend to take portraits because my main social media platform is Tumblr, and portrait works best over there. Also, as I've worked more and more in the portrait aspect I have grown to appreciate the more intimate landscape shots... not looking at the grand aspect but rather focusing in on the way parts of the landscape juxtapose with each other.
